Xavier Lusignan Wins Bronze at Commonwealth Games

Outaouais weightlifter Xavier Lusignan distinguished himself on the international stage by winning the bronze medal in the 110 kg category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, held from July 23 to August 2, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland.

This performance allowed the athlete from Mansfield-et-Pontefract in the Pontiac MRC to reach the podium at an international competition that brought together many of the Commonwealth's best weightlifters. His medal rewards years of training and confirms his place among the best Canadian representatives in his discipline. Lusignan told the Bulletin that he had hoped for a better result but remains proud of the work accomplished and his place on the podium. "It's a great accomplishment that will stay with me for the rest of my life and that I worked very hard to achieve," he explained. "I was happy to make it to the podium, but I wasn't satisfied with my performance. I knew I was capable of much more, but in competition, things don't always go as planned. Despite a slightly more challenging day, I still managed to win a bronze medal, and I'm very proud to have represented Canada on the international stage."

In a message released after the event, Excellence sportive Outaouais congratulated Lusignan and highlighted his achievement, stating, "With this accomplishment, Xavier Lusignan continues to inspire and motivate the entire Outaouais sports community."
