Sophie Chatel, Member of Parliament for Pontiac, has announced the opening of the application period for the 2024-2025 New Horizons for Seniors Program. This federal initiative supports community-based projects that are both led by and intended for seniors, aiming to enhance the health, well-being, and social inclusion of older adults across Canada.
Applications for funding will be accepted from August 1 until September 12, 2024, with a strict deadline of 3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. Eligible organisations within the Pontiac constituency, as well as throughout Quebec, are encouraged to apply for grants of up to $25,000.
In a recent social media post, Chatel urged local organisations to get involved, stating, “This program supports projects designed by and for seniors, aimed at improving their health and well-being. Eligible organisations in my constituency, apply now!”
Eligible organisations include a broad range of entities such as non-profits, municipal administrations, provincial and territorial governments, Indigenous organisations, educational institutions, and public health institutions. For-profit organisations may also apply, provided that their proposed activities are non-commercial in nature and do not generate profit.
In Quebec, the program operates under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec. This collaboration ensures that the program’s goals align with the priorities of the province, particularly as they relate to senior citizens.
To qualify for funding, projects must meet several key criteria. Each project must be completed within 52 weeks, and the funding request cannot exceed $25,000. Projects must also align with the objectives of the program, which include promoting volunteerism among seniors, increasing community engagement, raising awareness about elder abuse, and supporting the social participation of seniors.
MP Sophie Chatel encourages all eligible organisations within her constituency to take advantage of this opportunity, noting the profound impact such projects can have on enhancing the quality of life for seniors in Pontiac and beyond.
Interested organisations can apply through the official Government of Canada website: https://www.canada.ca/fr/emploi-developpement-social/services/financement/nouveaux-horizons-aines-communautaires.html, where detailed guidelines and application forms are available. This funding initiative represents a significant opportunity for communities to develop programs that will directly benefit their senior populations.
