Chelsea Slams Province on Health and Social Services
Reuel S. Amdur
At its session on November 5, Chelsea Council unanimously adopted a resolution endorsing the demand of SOS Outaouais that the provincial government improve health and social services in the Outaouais. It noted that in 2019 the National Assembly identified "the importance of sustaining the Outaouais Region" due to its "particular situation" and its "significant constraints in the last several years in public financing." Chelsea Council complained that this shortfall amounts to $448.54 per year per resident. $181 million year. In concrete terms, the Outaouais lacks 1.138 nurses in direct service and 264 doctors.
Chelsea noted that recruitment and retention of staff is especially difficult because of competition for staff from Ottawa, which pays better and offers more attractive conditions.
During the meeting, Mayor Pierre Guénard spoke of the first of a series of coffee chats with residents wishing to have a conversation with him for half an hour on any subject. Tio take advantage of this opportunity and schedule a session, contact mairie@chelsea.ca.
