The Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPAQ), in collaboration with La Trappe à fromage de l’Outaouais, is asking the public not to consume “Grondines” cheese, which may contain the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus.
The recall applies to units sold between July 9 and 16, 2026. The cheese, sold by weight, was wrapped in plastic film and sold refrigerated at the company’s two locations: 114 Saint-Raymond Boulevard in Gatineau (Hull sector) and 193 Old Chelsea Road, Suite 105, in Chelsea.
The company is recalling the product as a precautionary measure, in collaboration with the MAPAQ and the City of Montreal’s Food Inspection Division. Consumers who have this cheese in their possession should not consume it, even if it shows no signs of spoilage or has no unusual odor.
According to the MAPAQ, food poisoning caused by Staphylococcus bacteria can lead to the sudden onset of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, cramps, and diarrhea. Symptoms generally appear 30 minutes to 8 hours after consuming contaminated food and usually subside within 24 hours. People experiencing these symptoms are advised to consult a healthcare professional.
At the time this warning was issued, no cases of illness linked to the consumption of this cheese had been reported to the MAPAQ.
