CAVAC launches intervention group for parents of victims of sexual exploitation

The Network of Centres for the Victims of Crime (CAVAC) invites parents whose children have been victims of sexual exploitation to participate in an intervention group. Interested and available parents can participate in the group that will meet weekly for 12 weeks in the fall. The group will be open to parents throughout Quebec and the meetings will be held virtually.

CAVAC hopes the meetings will help members understand what happened to their children, and allow them to share their experiences with one another. The group facilitators will help parents identify ways to cope with the impacts and advise them on how they can support their children. The goal is to break the isolation and foster recovery.

New Response Team

CAVAC has a new Dedicated Sexual Exploitation Response Team (PSST). These dedicated staff members are now at the Quebec City, Laval, Montreal, Montérégie, and Outaouais locations. The PSST works with the Escouade Intégrée de Lutte Contre le Proxénétisme de la Sûreté du Québec and police forces to meet the needs of victims of sexual exploitation. They aim to provide these individuals with appropriate support.

The Outaouais centre is located at 729 Boulevard Saint-Joseph in the Hull sector of Gatineau.

CAVAC centres across Quebec offer frontline services to crime witnesses or victims. The centres work in collaboration with community organizations, health and social services and legal services. A core belief of CAVAC is that victims have the ability to manage their own lives and make decisions that are best for them. CAVACs are non-profit organizations that are financed by the Fonds d’aide aux victimes d’actes criminels (FAVAC).
